Innovación Educativa
Project-Based Learning (PBL) represents one of the most important areas of focus for the Fundación Ixtatán, due to its effective role in transforming educational quality and fostering leadership in educational innovation. This approach marks a paradigm shift from traditional teaching to a paradigm of action. In other words, it moves away from learning content through textbooks and instead allows students to develop key life skills by engaging with real-world situations in their environment.
In this context, "we must start with a conceptualization of competencies as tools to face life’s challenges." Therefore, "the methodology for preparing for life demands an education... in which it is necessary to employ varied and complementary didactic strategies and methods: simulations, case analysis, problem-solving, assemblies, projects, field research, etc."
In this way, students develop essential skills applicable to real life, as they become the focal point of the teaching process. With this in mind, the Project-Based Learning model is a two-year training process aimed at equipping young people in their final two years of study. It specializes in the methodological approach of PBL, as well as in the formulation and execution of projects, enabling students to develop the necessary competencies for life.
Project-Based Learning Curriculum Development – partnering with area public schools to implement project-based learning initiatives that encourage students to stay in school because the program is innovative and relevant to real life problems. This program inclused the annual English Teacher’s training sessions for public school teachers in Huehuetenango.
